Rhodes noted on his Attestation record in 1916 that he had served with the Coast Defence. NB could also date from WWII when sea mines, lookout and gun emplacement on coast just south of Wainui. Found with other items in this accession, all related to RAC Rhodes. Located in a shed that had been used as a chicken coop when the donor was clearing her parents' property at Wainui on Cemetery Road. The donor's parents, Shirley and Clive Butler had no relationship to Rhodes. It is unknown how these the collection came to be in the shed. Rhodes served in the First World War from 1916-1919. His address on his military record was Duvauchelle and his father was at Benoit Street, Akaroa. |
