Description |
Wooden rectangular post box with pitched roof. Painted in NZ Post livery: white, red and black. Hinged door at front with lock removed (when acquired), also horizontal postal slot with (inside) metal cover and sign with collection details. Back of box has a label stuck on with NZ postal service symbol (stylised letter) and the word POST. Two holes for attachment through label, and third hole centre bottom. Angled metal strip runs across apex of roof of box. |

This postal box removed from service in the mid 1980s and replaced with a metal box. Donor had been manager for NZ Post when Banks Peninsula District Council had the postal agency. He reported that the box came from one of three Akaroa locations: by the weigh bridge at the main wharf; outside Pompallier Village; rue Balguerie. |
