Description |
Brimmed hat made from hand-plaited strips of ribbonwood bark, some died green to create a pattern. Centre of crown sewn up with green thread. Associated strip of ribbonwood - hat band? - with shark skin adhered. This not attached to hat, much of the skin is missing. |

Donor information: "Mrs Timothy in Wainui created this ribbonwood hat for me in the early 1940s. We stayed in Mr Stanbury's house overlooking the bay. My aunt Elda Brooker who taught at the school would be away in the school holidays so had great holidays at Wainui. I treasured this hat that was so beautiful...." |
