Oil painting on canvas by Willliam M. N. Watkins. Depicts Akaroa Harbour from a vantage point above Barry's Bay (on the current stock route leading to the Duvauchelle side of Pigeon Bay Road), with Onawe Peninsula prominent in the harbour. Two figures and a cabbage tree in the lower right. Boats are visible on the harbour. Initialled and dated (1874) on the lower right corner. |

Donor reported that the painting was created for and gifted to Mary Abb Latter (nee Le Clerc) of Barry's Bay by the artist. Ownership passed through family from Mary Abb Latter to her daughter Elinor Clifford (who married Basil Henning) then to her son, Charles William (Bill) Henning, then to his daughter, Jillian (Jill), the donor. |
