Description |
Cabinet card landscape format photograph looking up rue Baguerie from the harbour end of the street. Image depicts rue Balgeurie close to its terminus at the waterside, and looking up the road. Buildings depicted include the rue Balguerie extension of the Criterion hotel, the BNZ as a single storey building, and the shop that stood on the corner of rues Lavaud and Balguerie. A profusion of weeds and grass on the road and on land at the right of frame. Men stand either side of the intersection of rue Jolie. Title inscribed lower left corner (i.e. on negative). Inscr. on back '1895'. Print mounted on white card. No photogrpaher recorded on cabinet card but this is printed from the same negative as AK:1964.125.18b, known to be by Con Murphy (c.1874-1907). The BNZ Bank gained its second storey in 1904. |
