Leather covered, hard bound ledger for the Commercial Hotel, 1858-60. Spine labelled Ledger, cover inscr. "Hotel" in ink. Front of ledger indexed with names of debtors. Pages numbered by hand. Ledger ends with accounts due to the hotel on 30/03/1860. Roughly last quarter of ledger pages unfilled.
The Commercial Hotel was advertised for sale or lease in April-July 1854 by George Armstrong, then for lease only to Oct. 1855. A Mr Henderson may have been running the hotel. Then in Sept 1858 ad. for lease again, George Armstrong still owner. By December ad. saying Hotel open as a "Family Hotel". George Armstrong had the licence in 1859 (18/06/1859, p.5). By April 1860 James Daly advertising for patronage (14/04/1860, p.5) and listed as licencee (20/04/1861, p.5). By December 1861 John Anderson advertising as proprietor (07/12/1861, p.6) [previously ran Hotel in Duvauchelle?].
