Description |
Hand written letter by Frank Worsley to Jock [i.e. James Mann Wordie (1889-1962)], written from 6 Gladstanes Road, London W.14, dated 18/02/1940. Follow-up letter to 2017.38.1 thanking Jock for information supplied and asking that the matter be kept strictly confidential. For context of letter see John Thomson, Shackleton's Captain, (1st edn) pp. 174-5. transcript: Dear Jock, May thanks indeed for your kindness in wiring and sending me particulars that I had asked for. Your conjecture about where I might be going is correct - if events that are happening do not upset arrangements. I would, at present, ask you to treat all I write in strickest confidence. My former boss has offered me a commission as major to carry out practically the same duties as I did before under him and about the same as The Boss did in a similar neighbourhood. On thinking over sledges I do not feel inclinded to use any except local onces which are broader than ours were. This would avoid trouble from different ruts. I will let you know as soon as I can what I am doing and the equipment I am obtaining for your opinion. Unfortunately, as you suggest, time is getting late. All the best. Yours sincerely F. A.
